Jack's new iron medicine

We have started giving Jack his new medicine to increase his iron stores, and so far it is going well. He is taking Ferrous Sulfate twice a day. Luckily it is a pretty small dropper, so he is cooperating. He will need to take for the next 2-3 months, until his 15-month appointment when they will re-check his iron levels. Update 4/30 - He has started spitting the meds out now... we will see how much we can get in him everyday!

Back from Maryland

We are back from our trip from Maryland/DC. It was a fantastic trip filled with fun days at the National Zoo , the super cool, brand new Clemyjontri Park , and just hanging out at the playground near Mamie and Grandpa's house. The kids were excellent on the flights, and we still got to spend all day Sunday with Daddy back home. It was so nice to see everyone. Pics at Picasa .

Good news from the doctor

It looks like Jack's hips are fine. Dr. Lo took a look at the x-rays, and everything seems ok . We still have to wait for the radiologist to review, but I think that is just a formality. As for the iron - J's blood test was fine for current levels, but his iron stores are a little low. So he will get to take an Rx for a couple of months to build them back up, and then we should be all set. This is consistent with diet - Jack was never a huge fan of eating baby cereal, and he still isn't too excited about some iron rich foods like broccoli. But I guess the drops taste pretty good, so hopefully this will be an easy problem to correct.

Jack's 12 month doctor appointment

Once again, the 12 month appointment was the most stressful to date, just like with Kate. First the easy stuff... Jack weighs 22lbs, 10 oz and is 30 inches long. He is just under the 50% curve, about where he was at 9 months. He is basically right on the curve for breast-fed babies. After that, the appointment got more stressful... After manually checking Jack's hips, Dr. Lo decided that we should x-ray his hips (breech babies are more likely to suffer from hip dislocation). Dr. W had not ordered an ultrasound at 6 months as is often done, since she did not think there was anything wrong. Hopefully the x-rays will be fine. And wow, is it challenging to hold down a small child on the x-ray table! Kate had to wait outside, and I think that was a little hard for her. As we were waiting for next thing, we were all dancing in the hallway instead of our room because it was soooo hot in our room, and of course Kate fell. And wouldn't you know it, she somehow managed to hit h...

Off to Maryland this week

Kate, Jack and Anjie are heading out to MD/VA/DC this week to spend some time with Mamie & Grandpa, Auntie Sarah, and Uncle James and Auntie Thaphne. We are looking forward to the trip. We might even still be able to see some cherry blossoms.

Great Bakery - Cathy's Sweet Creations

If you are looking for a bakery in the Naper / Plainfield / Bolingbrook area, I highly recommend Cathy's Sweet Creations Bake Shop. It is located in downtown Plainfield , phone # 815-577-9660. The cakes, donuts and coffee cake we ordered were all delicious, and Cathy herself helped us load the cakes into the car. There are only a few stand-alone bakeries around anymore, and her shop is worth the trip.

Happy 1st Birthday to Jack

Happy Birthday, Jack! We had such a good time celebrating this weekend. On Friday we went out for donuts with Mia, Noah and Jake, then went to soccer. Kate and Noah had a good time running all over the field. It was finally warm and sunny (and not snowing!) so we were able to spend time outside too. On Saturday Grandpa Bill and Auntie Chris came over. Jack seemed to enjoy his smash cake! Pics at Picasa .

Who is Juliet going to betray?

Any Lost fans out there? Yes, I know I don't have a TV, but one of Paul's friends from work gave us Season 1 this fall, and now I am hooked. ABC.com is pretty cool. But anyway, what is Juliet's deal? I have furious at the end of One of Us. Anyone have theories? Or have you all dropped the show for not resolving any mysteries...

Where did spring go?

This week has been miserably cold for this time of year, highs only around 35 and snow. We have spent a lot of time inside lately. Days pass much more quickly when we can go outside for bike rides! Pictures at Picasa .

Singing, tumbling... a busy girl

Kate has really been enjoying her classes lately. They did work on the piano the other day in music class, so Kate was happy. She had been prepared to ask Miss Wendy about it :). And Kate has started singing a lot more, especially the songs they do in class. Now that she is older, so can actually sing pretty well. In gymnastics the girls all seem very confident. Each week they get better at the skills - for instance now when doing their cartwheels they have to jump over a block, and Coach Luna holds on to them less when doing backward somersaults . There are now 3 girls in class - Kate, Katie and Abbey. It is so funny to watch them during the down time... they talk to each other, and seem so animated... at one point it looked like they were discussing fashion - their different leotards - which wouldn't surprise me a bit :).

Happy 1st Birthday to Jack

Jack is one today! We will be doing some fun things today, then having a family party tomorrow with Auntie Chris and Grandpa Bill. Today, Kate gets to pick the activities that she thinks Jack will like, so it is almost like her birthday too :). We are going out for donuts, going to soccer with Noah (it is bring a friend day, we took the session off) and going out for lunch. Happy Birthday!

Jack took a step

Jack took his first step yesterday. He had taken a few 1/2 steps this weekend. But he will only try to walk if he isnt' thinking about it. If he picks something up and then lets go of what he had been holding on to, he will stand and balance, and then possibly take a step. With his 1 year birthday this Friday, it is only a matter of time until he is chasing Kate around!

Happy Easter

We had a quiet Easter this year. Spring is busy for us, for the past 3 years someone in our family was being born or having a first birthday at Easter! Kate tried coloring eggs for the first time and enjoyed it, although she wasn't too keen on getting her fingers stained from the color. Pictures at Picasa including piano, and Jack's new birthday present from Uncle Shawn.

Playtime

The new playhouse has been a hit. This is from last week when it was still warm out. They love to fill up their lawnmowers with gas from the playhouse pump. Pictured from left: Jake, Noah, Jack, Kate .

Music class for Kate

Kate started her new music class yesterday. As with gymnastics, Anjie is not in the class with her. But with this one, I can't even see what they are doing. It seems like she really liked it, although it isn't piano lessons like I had thought. It is a general music class, with playing instruments, some coloring, parades and other things to get the kids excited about music. There are only 3 kids in the class, and the 2 boys are 4+ years old (3-5 age range), but they all will get a lot of personal time with Miss Wendy.

Kate's new piano

Kate is still asleep, but when she wakes up she will get her new toddler piano ! It was originally for her birthday, but she wanted to have it as a reward for sleeping all night in her big girl bed. Pictures later.

Early mornings

This is the third day in a row that Jack has decided to start the day at 5:30. Not sure what is going on, but I miss the 7:15 days of old. Perhaps some more teeth coming in...

Is there any coffee left?

We had a busy weekend! On Friday we went to a play date with Ben and Elena, and then met Auntie Chris at the Lincoln Park Zoo. On Saturday we went to the Easter Egg Hunt in our neighborhood. Pictures at Picasa .

Old Apartment has a new neighbor

Wow, check out this new building next to our old apartment on Halsted. I am so glad we moved before the construction was fully underway!
