The Rileys have already been bombarded by our first virus of the season, and it is only September! This was probably just a run of the mill cold, but it has hit most of us, and in surprisingly different ways as little viruses can tend to do. Tom had it the worst, with fever sore throat, Will has been getting nosebleeds, which tend to be his response to this type of virus, Kate wouldn't eat for a couple of days - not great when you have XC and Soccer practice to attend - Paul and I had mostly sore throat, typical cold symptoms, and Jack has somehow steered clear.
I ended up taking Tom to the after hours clinic last Saturday as the cold was making his daily life a challenge. He had a slight ear infection, and the pain/pressure was making him literally howl, so we opted to give him the antibiotics. Wow does that boy love yummy amoxicillin, even if it isn't pink anymore.
We hope to all be 100% soon! Lots more soccer games and cross country meets to gear up for. Hopefully this first round of illness is not an indicator of colds/flu to come. Will will be heading to the doctor's office for drop in flu shots as soon as the doctors get them in. They won't be giving out the mist this year (I usually let the kids pick mist or shot and they always pick mist) because it was dreadfully unsuccessful last year, with about a 15% or less effective rate.
