One of the stranger birthdays....

As with all days, my birthday is just a day.  Usually involving cake or donuts or both.  We have been busy the past two years first getting ready to move, then moving back.  But yesterday was one of the stranger birthdays I have had.  I had lots of flower planting time, which was awesome. The kids all made cards and we had cake, which was lovely.  And we watched some World Cup games as the games are still streamable until the evil cable companies turn the service off in time for the last few games.

And we ended the day around 10pm waking everyone up and hanging out in the basement for a 1/2 hour after all the smart phones in our house told us to "take shelter now!"  Crazy storms, but so far I haven't seen many problems; just a few filled flower pots, and we will need to go pick up sticks when it dries out a bit.

But, back to my birthday, the main thing we did all day was try to figure out if Will has Chicken pox!!  Ok, this might seem easy to you guys who are over 60, but personally, I haven't seen it since I was a kid, and I don't remember what it looks like.  Same story with Paul.  The poor kids is literally covered with an itchy rash that started on Sunday and quickly spread.  The doc wouldn't let him come in until 5pm just in case.  (Wow, I miss Dr. W in London.)

Sooo... it turns out not to be chicken pox (Tom says you get it from a chicken) but some unknown cause.  Is that better??  We are treating it systematically, steroids, lots of topical hydrocortisone.  We isn't contagious, but, as Dr. L said, people might not want to play with him - he is covered in a rash!

Soccer has been cancelled today due to the storms, and I think he will skip wrestling camp.  Hopefully he will be all mended soon!

First Day 4th Grade!

Bye Bye Birdie!

Tom was Ed Sullivan in the production this weekend of Bye Bye Birdie!  Kate donned her sock-hop costume from 5th grade to embrace the spirit of the show. For those of you unfamiliar with the musical,  Bye Bye Birdie is set in 1958 and was influenced by Elvis Presley being drafted into the Army in 1957.    Congrats, Tom!!

100 days left

We have just over 100 days left in the UK.  The kids are super excited to get back to the States, and we are too.  We have had a great time here, but look forward to being 'home'. This is the last week of term, and only term 3 left!  The last term supposedly goes fast, as the weather improves, there are Suzuki concerts, the talent show, and lots of field trips. We have some travel still lined up, plus some visitors to join us - looking forward to seeing you, Auntie Sarah and Uncle Aaron!  Stayed tuned for pictures of our last few adventures. We are starting to get the ball rolling on movers and pet shippers and all that fun stuff.  And we have to have the whole flat cleaned once our stuff is out. One step at a time!
