Disneyland Paris

We spent the weekend in Disneyland Paris and had a fantastic time.  Here are a lot of Pictures

Friday
  • Wake up - J says he has a headache.  No fever, no other symptoms.  Off to school.
  • Yet another Town Hall meeting, which cuts into my packing time.  Luckily Paul gets home as I am about to leave and watches T.  Refresher course on my manners, plus a catchy song entitled 'Place Value.'
  • After the town hall meeting I go to pick up Jack.  His friend Charlotte Go. greats me at the door of 1E with, "Jack has a headache."  Miss E says she saw him go downhill about 3 pm.  Argh!
  • Of course it is pouring after we pick everyone up at their rooms instead of outside to gain some time. No choice but to get home.  It is 3:20, pouring, a 10 min scooter, no umbrellas, a cello,  and car picking us up at 3:45. The show must go on.
  • We make it home, change wet clothes, take some Tylenol and get in the car!  Love Addison Lee.
  • The rest of the trip to Paris is pretty uneventful.  J fell asleep on the train.  One train change in Lille, not too much going on.  The trains were pretty empty too, so we had some room to move around.
  • We got to Disneyland just as park was closing and people were streaming out.  The signage is pretty bad - no good directions on how to get to the hotel (it is easy if you know where you are going) and there no lights on outside of the park, assumingly to get people out.
  • We make it finally, check in, and order room service to gear up for Saturday at the park!

Saturday
  •  Jack is feeling much better today.  We gave him some more Tylenol, and let him ride in the stroller a little.
  • We spent the morning at Disneyland park.  We used our Extra magic hour in the morning to go on as many rides as we could, although not everything is open.  We were able to go on everything we wanted to do, but the crowds got bigger in the afternoon.
  • So much the same in the park - layout and rides are very similar, but just fewer of them.  We still did Pirates, Big Thunder, Space Mountain, It's a small world, Dumbo...  really everything we would have done in Florida.
  • So much different - this is France.  Missing is the very special feel that Disney is Magic.  The place is still beautiful, and the Halloween decorations were fantastic.  But people cut in line, everyone smokes, the park isn't as clean, and the cast members aren't as helpful.  The good side is that most of the guests illegally picnic in the park, so the restaurants are easy to eat in, although the food isn't all that great.
  • No need for my brushed up social skills from the town hall meeting.  Again, this is France.  Staying to the left isn't a good idea, and people tend to push and cut in line.

Sunday
  • We got up early to make use of our Extra Magic hours from 8-10 at park, then left when it got crowded.  We went on Buzz Lightyear twice, then went for seconds on some rides we were on on Saturday.  Later on Sunday we went back to the park to catch a few more rides that weren't open during Magic hours, like the Alice maze.
  • We tried to go swimming, but first of all I forgot J's swimsuit.  Then we were at the Worst pool imaginable for kids - Who makes a pool at a kids resort over 4 1/2 feet deep!  Shortest swimming trip ever.
  • While at Disney we were  celebrating our 14 year wedding anniversary.  We went to Disney World for our Honeymoon.  Paul treated me with a volcano sundae at Rainforest Cafe in the Village :)
  • We picked up our bags and quickly made our way over to the station, only to be greeted with a Train delay- we got on the train early, then proceeded to sit for an hour: 30 min early, 30 delay.  We think the delay was because of scheduled tunnel work.
  • Tunnel construction So normally we spend about 20 min in the ~30 mile Tunnel.  Not during construction!  We were in the tunnel for a full hour, and I was starting to feel a little edgy. Combine that with a whole coach full of Brits complain about the park and about it being in France, and I really wanted off that train.
Despite a few hurdles we all had a great time and really loved being back at Disney.

First Day 4th Grade!

Orinda Country Cotillion

The Orinda Country  Cotillion  is a forty year community tradition sponsoring a series of seven evening dance classes and welcomes all seventh graders in Orinda.  The boys are girls are both broken into two sections, so every other dance is with the opposite boy group. Two of the dances are themed (a sock hop and country -western) and the rest are semi-formal.  Last night was the first dance in the seven dance series.  Kate and her friend Zoe had a great time.  They learned the fox trot and a line dance.  Seemed like fun!
