Our weekend in France

Our trip to Paris was good, but defnitely not our best vacation.  It ended with me losing my brand new Iphone, so perhaps that is clouding the trip a bit :(.

We had an early train to Paris Nord from St. Pancras, which is just a few Tube stops away.  We left the house mostly on time at 6am, but it still took us a bit longer to get to the station.  And when we got to the station 25 min before our departure, the security lines were crazy long.

We totally cut in line (mostly with the authorization of the Eurostar employees) and finally got through the line.  The Eurostar folks are actually very accomodating, and kept calling to see if any passengers were left for the departing trains.  No flight attendant is going to do that!

So after getting through security and Passport control, we sprinted for the train.  We got on the platform at carriage 1, and had to run all the way to 16!  Literally as soon as we sat down they closed the doors and left the stations.  Whew!!

The train was fast and we were in Paris in 2hr 15 min.  Not bad.  We had checked the weather, and the temps were supposed to be the same, but I hadn't accounted for the thing we rarely see here - the sun! It was hot!

We had an apartment on the 5th floor, no elevator.  Which would have been ok if we had AC or if there wasn't an all night bar down on the first floor.  Again not perfect, but not terrible.  Just all a little annoying.

We enjoyed seeing lots of sights and old buildings, but that isn't the kids' cup of tea.  We did spend time at every playground along the way.

We will go back, and next time I will be more careful with my phone!

First Day 4th Grade!

Orinda Country Cotillion

The Orinda Country  Cotillion  is a forty year community tradition sponsoring a series of seven evening dance classes and welcomes all seventh graders in Orinda.  The boys are girls are both broken into two sections, so every other dance is with the opposite boy group. Two of the dances are themed (a sock hop and country -western) and the rest are semi-formal.  Last night was the first dance in the seven dance series.  Kate and her friend Zoe had a great time.  They learned the fox trot and a line dance.  Seemed like fun!
