Here are some of the new terms we hear and sometimes say.
  • Alight - get off the Tube, or anything else you are on
  • Fancy - To like  the other day Kate said, "I don't fancy going up this hill."
  • Mind the gap - Watch your step, especially when getting off Tube - sometimes it is a foot height  difference.
  • Half-ten (or any hour) - Instead of 10:30, they say half 10.
  • Military time - very big here.  1 is 13, 2 14 etc.
  • Bin - garbage can
  • Bits - small pieces.  Mommy, please don't leave any bits in my jelly for my sandwich
  • Brilliant - very good.  What a brilliant idea
  • cheers - goodbye
  • zebra -crosswalk
  • lift - elevator
  • washing up - doing dishes / dish detergent, etc.

First Day 4th Grade!

Orinda Country Cotillion

The Orinda Country  Cotillion  is a forty year community tradition sponsoring a series of seven evening dance classes and welcomes all seventh graders in Orinda.  The boys are girls are both broken into two sections, so every other dance is with the opposite boy group. Two of the dances are themed (a sock hop and country -western) and the rest are semi-formal.  Last night was the first dance in the seven dance series.  Kate and her friend Zoe had a great time.  They learned the fox trot and a line dance.  Seemed like fun!
