Beware the Bike Lane!

We had a fun time exploring another city this weekend.  Amsterdam is small enough to walk around easily, but the most common mode of transportation is bikes.  There are bikes everywhere, with dedicated bike lanes!  It is great to see all the bikes, but very dangerous if you aren't used to having to look for them zooming by.  Couple that with the trams that drive down the middle of the road, and it is not at all a place for Tom to walk.

We arrived on Friday after taking a taxi to Victoria, and the Gatwick express to the airport.  At the airport we took a bus, then of course the plane :).  We managed to sneak in a boat ride too, and then a tram ride on Saturday!

The food in Amsterdam is surprisingly similar to American food, so that was refreshing. We had hotdogs in the park and even stopped by McDonalds.  We stayed at a Marriott this time, as we are trying to figure out which style of hotel suits us best.  There are more french fries than in Belgium.

In Amsterdam the weather was rainy, but like in London, the weather changes quickly.  We spent time at the Van Gogh Museum checked out the flowers at the Bloemenmarkt and did walk through the Red Light district during the day to see what the fuss is all about.  There is a lot of shopping to be done in Amsterdam.

Everyone speaks English in Amsterdam, so it was the easiest city we have visited recently.

Jack and Will even visited the nibbling fish tank in the airport to get their feet squeaky clean.

The kids liked Amsterdam quite a bit.  It is at the top of their visited city list - behind London of course!

First Day 4th Grade!

Bye Bye Birdie!

Tom was Ed Sullivan in the production this weekend of Bye Bye Birdie!  Kate donned her sock-hop costume from 5th grade to embrace the spirit of the show. For those of you unfamiliar with the musical,  Bye Bye Birdie is set in 1958 and was influenced by Elvis Presley being drafted into the Army in 1957.    Congrats, Tom!!

100 days left

We have just over 100 days left in the UK.  The kids are super excited to get back to the States, and we are too.  We have had a great time here, but look forward to being 'home'. This is the last week of term, and only term 3 left!  The last term supposedly goes fast, as the weather improves, there are Suzuki concerts, the talent show, and lots of field trips. We have some travel still lined up, plus some visitors to join us - looking forward to seeing you, Auntie Sarah and Uncle Aaron!  Stayed tuned for pictures of our last few adventures. We are starting to get the ball rolling on movers and pet shippers and all that fun stuff.  And we have to have the whole flat cleaned once our stuff is out. One step at a time!
