First week in London

We have been here for a week now, and are adjusting to our new house in London.  We have been very busy getting settled, exploring, and getting the house set up.

I think going on vacation before had its pros and cons.  Will keeps talking about when we moved to Maine (or sometimes he says New York).  Not sure he understands the difference.  It might be easier here now as all of our things are here.

We arrived last Tuesday am, and the day was kindof a blur.  The flight from Boston is short, and we left early, so we go into LHR around 6am.  The last 20 minutes of the flight were a nightmare.  BA attendants demanded I had T in his seat (right after I woke him up) so he spent the whole time screaming, 'up please mommy.'  It was heartbreaking.  Immigration was a breeze, and we didn't wait at all to get through, or to get our bags.  Luckily we had a driver scheduled, as we would never have made it out of the airport with our 10 bags plus carry-ons.

Wednesday and Thursday we spent exploring the area, looking for playgrounds, and trying out the Tube.  We got K's new violin, and J's new cello.

Friday was crazy busy with unpacking.  We tried to keep up with the movers bringing in the boxes.  We needed them to take all the empty boxes and paper with them!  Only a few minor things were broken/damaged in the move.

Right after the movers left, the animals arrived!  They were all so happy to see us, and it is nice to have them here.  Our windows don't have screens, and it has been in the 80s here, so we are trying hard not to let the kittens climb out the 2 and 3 story windows!  It will cool down this weekend.

The Heath is not far, and it is a HUGE green space.  It is also an off leash dog area.  Scout is doing pretty good off-leash.  But he does have a tendency to walk into bakeries (but who doesn't).

Saturday and Sunday we explored different areas in Central London.  We are further north, so much less congestion and people here.  Central London is a bit overwhelming... perhaps it will quiet a bit after the Olympics.

Monday (yesterday) we went back to the Heath, and continued to work on the house.

Today I have some rugs being delivered, and then hope to go down to look for a piano for hire (rent).  We will plan to head to the zoo this week too.

First Day 4th Grade!

Orinda Country Cotillion

The Orinda Country  Cotillion  is a forty year community tradition sponsoring a series of seven evening dance classes and welcomes all seventh graders in Orinda.  The boys are girls are both broken into two sections, so every other dance is with the opposite boy group. Two of the dances are themed (a sock hop and country -western) and the rest are semi-formal.  Last night was the first dance in the seven dance series.  Kate and her friend Zoe had a great time.  They learned the fox trot and a line dance.  Seemed like fun!
