London Vacation 2011 - Wednesday 12/28

London Vacation 2011 - Wednesday 12/28
We got up a little early and ordered pastry basket and coffee from room service.  I love chocolate croissants!  After we got cleaned up we went out on the town!  We ended up walking and walking in the morning all around Mayfair.  Too much walking, actually.  We stopped for second breakfast, then continued on walking to the Palace.  Then we walked through St. James park, past Big Ben, and over to Westminster Abbey.  We did the self guided tour which was actually pretty difficult with 4 cranky kids.  But we did learn a little about the Abbey.  The biggest thing we learned today is that we should take taxis!

We took a taxi over to Harrods, and were greeted with amazing crowds.  We had not even thought about the after Christmas sales and how crazy the shopping would be!  We had planned to eat lunch there, but ended up finding a pub down the street.

Kate and I tried going back to Harrods after lunch, and it was a little easier without the boys, but still pretty crazy.  We quickly followed the boys home and all rested after a very busy morning!

For dinner we took a taxi (the kids love taxis) over to an Indian place in Covent Garden.  We continue to be amazed at how many people are out all over London.  It is so crowded in all the shopping areas!  Dinner was good, then we walked around Covent Garden a bit, then headed back to the hotel.

First Day 4th Grade!

Bye Bye Birdie!

Tom was Ed Sullivan in the production this weekend of Bye Bye Birdie!  Kate donned her sock-hop costume from 5th grade to embrace the spirit of the show. For those of you unfamiliar with the musical,  Bye Bye Birdie is set in 1958 and was influenced by Elvis Presley being drafted into the Army in 1957.    Congrats, Tom!!

100 days left

We have just over 100 days left in the UK.  The kids are super excited to get back to the States, and we are too.  We have had a great time here, but look forward to being 'home'. This is the last week of term, and only term 3 left!  The last term supposedly goes fast, as the weather improves, there are Suzuki concerts, the talent show, and lots of field trips. We have some travel still lined up, plus some visitors to join us - looking forward to seeing you, Auntie Sarah and Uncle Aaron!  Stayed tuned for pictures of our last few adventures. We are starting to get the ball rolling on movers and pet shippers and all that fun stuff.  And we have to have the whole flat cleaned once our stuff is out. One step at a time!
