London Vacation 2011 - Friday 12/30

London Vacation 2011  - Friday 12/30
Today is our last full day in town.  We have another late morning starting with 9am Starbucks and reading the papers.  Today we are heading to the Museum of Natural History in Kensington.  Since it is holiday, and the museums are free, half of London (the half that isn't shopping) are in line at the museum.

Since it is time for second breakfast, we skip the line and head back to shopping.  On the way we pass the Victoria and Albert Museum and there is no line!  Since it is free and we are walking past, we vote to go and check it out.  The museum was very cool, with many artifacts hundreds of years old.  Lots of Catholic stuff too, which surprised me.   But, we are still hungry, so we head to a pub for lunch.  And we need some nappies at a drug store.  After lunch we head back to rest.

It is raining again, and we are heading to a different part of town to go to the British Museum.  The mummies are super cool, but again very crowded.  I like the clocks and watches displays too.  It is fantastic how old these things all are.  We are hungry again, so back to Oxford Street to go the the Spaghetti House on Duke. They have many tables for 6, but all full, so we have to wait for awhile.  Have you ever heard Will when he is hungry and tired?  "Why is this taking so long!!"  Was his mantra.  Soon enough we had yummy noodles and some wine.  Then Kate and I went shopping again, while the boys headed back to the hotel.  This time we tried the less designer M & S Store, and it was better fit for our shopping needs.  Then we hit some souvenir shops and grabbed some desserts to bring back to the boys.

OK, here's where it starts to get a bit less fun.  After dessert Kate says to me, "Mommy, my tummy hurts." Huh, what do I do with that??  How does it hurt?  Did you eat too much?  Process, process,  maybe you shouldn't be sleeping on a down comforter, let's put you in the bathroom sitting area on a comfy bath robe.  A couple of hours later I hear Kate yell for me, and find her, the bathrobes, and the closed toilet covered in noodle puke.  Lovely.  It is midnight, no one at housekeeping, and I have a ton of puke to clean up.  Late proceeds to vomit another 7 or so time every half hour until 4 am.

First Day 4th Grade!

Bye Bye Birdie!

Tom was Ed Sullivan in the production this weekend of Bye Bye Birdie!  Kate donned her sock-hop costume from 5th grade to embrace the spirit of the show. For those of you unfamiliar with the musical,  Bye Bye Birdie is set in 1958 and was influenced by Elvis Presley being drafted into the Army in 1957.    Congrats, Tom!!

100 days left

We have just over 100 days left in the UK.  The kids are super excited to get back to the States, and we are too.  We have had a great time here, but look forward to being 'home'. This is the last week of term, and only term 3 left!  The last term supposedly goes fast, as the weather improves, there are Suzuki concerts, the talent show, and lots of field trips. We have some travel still lined up, plus some visitors to join us - looking forward to seeing you, Auntie Sarah and Uncle Aaron!  Stayed tuned for pictures of our last few adventures. We are starting to get the ball rolling on movers and pet shippers and all that fun stuff.  And we have to have the whole flat cleaned once our stuff is out. One step at a time!
