Tom's 1 Month

We saw Dr. Amin yesterday for Tom's one month appointment. He looks great, and just one shot. He weighed 10 lbs, 2 oz. He was a little lighter than his brothers despite being bigger at birth (I think he lost more the first couple of days). Here are comments from Will and Jack... Flashback from Will's 1-month visit: Will weighted in today at 10 lbs 14 oz! And I was hoping he was at least 9 :). He was 7 3 at birth and 6 14 on the 23rd when he went home. The exam went well, Dr. Lo says he looks great. Only 1 shot today, but 4 next visit - yuck. Flashback from Jack's 1-month visit: Typically, babies gain about 1/2 lb a week at this age. Jack has gained a bit more... he is now at 10lbs 9oz, up from 7 at birth. That is just over a 50% gain! Kate had also grown quickly by her 1-month visit, but her increase had been just over 40%.

Happy 4 weeks

Happy 4 weeks to Tom. His one month will be on Wednesday! He is starting to get bigger - his cheeks and chin are filling out, and his belly, legs, and arms are starting to plump up too :).

Eye Color

We are still trying to figure out what color Tom's eyes are going to be. They are still pretty dark blue... could turn lighter, or could be brown! We will see.

Pictures of past two weeks

Here are some pictures from the past two weeks. Lots of pool time in the backyard, and of course lots of pictures of Tom. It has continued to be very, very hot here, upper 80s and humid, so when we are outside, there is usually water involved!

New piano teacher this summer

Our piano teacher, Miss Gina, decided to take the rest of the summer off from at-home lessons, so we had to find a new instructor until school starts. Luckily they just moved a music store right up the street. The lessons are shorter (30 min instead of 45), and I have to drag everyone up there, but at least K is starting her new books. She finished the primer level, and has moved to level one.

Swim lessons - session 3

We have one week off until the final session of swim lessons starts. Kate is doing a great job in yellow and is learning quickly now that she will put her face under. Her class meets in the deep end! Jack did a fantastic job this last session, and is moving to red!

Cara Rae Kielty

Congratulations to Trisha and Jim, and big brothers Connor and Craig! Cara Rae was born Tuesday, July 6th. She was 8 lbs 7 ounces. Anjie and her cousin Trisha were pregnant together this time. It was fun to experience the whole thing together. Both Tom and Cara were born 2 days from their mom's birthday. Tom 2 days before on 6/28, and Cara 2 days after on 7/6. We had been talking about having birthday babies... and we were pretty close!

Tom's Birth Story

- - By Meg Smith, DONA certified doula Thomas George, this is the story of the day that you were born… It all started at about 1:50 a.m. on June 28th, when your mom woke up to feel that her water had broken. This was a bit of a surprise as you were two weeks early, but your brothers and sister also came a bit early themselves! After doing a load of laundry and getting things pulled together, your Mommy called me, Meg the doula and woke up your Daddy. She also called your neighbor, Amy, to come stay with your brothers and sister. Your Mommy and Daddy went to Edward Hospital in Naperville at 5:00 A.M. and got checked into room 105. At 6:00 after being registered, your mom was checked by nurse, Andrea, and was at 1cm a station of –1 and 70% effaced. After making sure that your heartbeat was steady your mom was free to walk around the hallways. And she did, again and again. This seemed to be working as her contractions went from about 7 minutes apart to about 2 minutes w...
