Garden 2007

We planted our garden about 1 1/2 weeks ago, and we are starting to see the sprouts! We planted okra, peas, squash, cantaloupe, cucumbers, tomatoes, corn, broccoli, and sweet peppers. We did have asparagus too, but Olive, then Scout dug it all up. Will plant spinach there instead.

5/30/07:
I replanted corn and spinach. Then Olive dug up the spinach. Not sure what her deal is with that part of the garden. The okra and peas are doing great, as well as cantaloupe, squash and cucs. The others are starting to come along, but I might replant in another week or two.

6/5/07:
Everything is doing well. Especially the squash. We added a trellis for the peas and the cucumbers, hopefully that will help keep those manageable. Might look into staking the squash too. Only a few tomatoes are coming up. I need to thin the broccoli, but I have such a hard time thinning plants.

6/18/07:
I replanted corn again yesterday. Also planted some spinach and sunflowers in some empty spots. We will see what happens!

6/21/07:
Wow, the corn and sunflowers have already sprouted! Very exciting. We also planted more snap peas (and will again in a couple weeks) because Kate loves to eat them!

7/10/07:
The peas are pretty much all gone, but the second row might start producing soon. I need to compost the first ones. We have a ton of green cherry tomatoes, and are waiting anxiously for them to ripen. There are a lot more squash than I originally thought, and those are coming along. The biggest one is the size of a fist, and many more around lemon size. The cucs look like little pickles, and the okra are just starting. The melon is the furthest behind, we will see how many we get.

8/15/07:
We had to get rid of the melons and cucs, but we still have a ton of tomatoes and okra. Next year we won't be planting any of these big sprawling veggies - they just take up too much room!

First Day 4th Grade!

Orinda Country Cotillion

The Orinda Country  Cotillion  is a forty year community tradition sponsoring a series of seven evening dance classes and welcomes all seventh graders in Orinda.  The boys are girls are both broken into two sections, so every other dance is with the opposite boy group. Two of the dances are themed (a sock hop and country -western) and the rest are semi-formal.  Last night was the first dance in the seven dance series.  Kate and her friend Zoe had a great time.  They learned the fox trot and a line dance.  Seemed like fun!
